Angel dates Zero A.D. for December 11

USA Today ran an exclusive trailer on September 8 for Angel’s Nativity picture, now titled Zero A.D.: The Birth of Christ and dated December 11 in U.S. theaters.

Angel’s own site lists the same Friday, with Alejandro Monteverde directing, which means the Christmas 2026 window this board had been carrying is gone.

Herod in the week of Passion

Deva Cassel plays Mary. Jamie Ward plays Joseph. Jim Caviezel plays Herod the Great, in a helmet that does the work the makeup trailer promised. Sam Worthington is Antipater, Herod’s son. Ben Mendelsohn is Nahash of Ammon. Gael García Bernal is Joachim. Monteverde told USA Today he wanted a story everyone already knows “in a completely new way.” The official trailer opens in a manger and then spends its time on the king who wants the child dead.

Caviezel is also on screens this week as Jesus, in the Passion 4K Fathom run that sells Gibson’s sequel. Angel’s tape asks the same actor to hunt the infant. The irony is cheap as a joke and expensive if December 11 has to carry a Massacre of the Innocents picture against Christmas family product. Worthington will already be in Avatar: Fire and Ash that season. Angel is dating a thriller, not a pageant.

From Bethlehem to a Friday

The film was announced as Bethlehem, then Zero A.D., then given the subtitle this month. Angel had it for December 19, 2025, and moved it so DAVID could take that Christmas. The studio’s whole theatrical bet still runs on a list and a Friday. December 11 is the Friday, two days after a Sunday in Advent, close enough to church calendars to look liturgical and early enough to look like a real opening.

Monteverde made Sound of Freedom for this company, the comparison exhibitors will use, fairly or not. The new tape is a Nativity story that wants to be a hunt. Tickets are not the news yet. A year of “Christmas 2026” just became a numbered Friday, and the king in the helmet is the sell.
