The count the ticket page could not give
When showtimes first went up, Fandango, AMC, Regal, and Cinemark had rooms and Angel had not printed a national theater total. Deadline’s Anthony D’Alessandro put the figure at 2,000 theaters in a Wednesday preview that was really about Jessica Chastain’s Other Mommy and Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Reckoning. Badman got one sentence. That sentence answers the booking question. Runner went out on nearly 2,500 screens last month. Unveil’s Daniel opened on 1,525. Two thousand is a real wide release, a step under Angel’s last chase movie and well above a specialty western.
What the reviews that filed actually say
Ten reviews is a thin Tomatometer, and 30% means most of the ones in are rotten. Michael Phillips in Variety, filed Thursday, called Quintana’s film a fitfully engaging remake and wrote that the first version remains the best one because this one “adds piousness at the expense of excitement.” He also wrote that Jones, 80, in the old Harry Carey role, is the part of the movie you wish were longer, and that Levi’s Quirt leans wisecrack when the 1947 film had chemistry. Phillips noted the Quaker family of the original is now a general Christian town. Christian Toto gave it 2.5 out of 4 and said McDonough and Jones steal it. Russ Simmons, on Kansas City’s KKFI, gave it 3 out of 5.
A Guild score of 79 and a critics’ score of 30% can sit on the same Friday. Angel’s model has lived in that gap before. The open question is whether 2,000 screens and a marshal performance are enough once Monday’s chart replaces a preview sentence, or whether the weekend looks like Runner: wide on Friday, cool by Sunday.
