What 355 screens did
Box Office Mojo and The Numbers agree on the weekend: $248,026, a $698 average, 355 theaters, and a total of $8,093,058. The Numbers’ dailies split it as $56,108 on Friday, $107,110 on Saturday, and $84,808 on Sunday. The average is down from $909 in week three and from $2,166 on opening weekend. The rooms that stayed are doing about a third of the per-screen business the film did when it was new.
The screen math is the part exhibitors will read first. From 1,525 to 355 is 1,170 theaters gone in three weeks. What remains is under a quarter of the opening map. A 62.7 percent drop on the dollars, on top of losing more than half the remaining rooms, is how a wide Bible title becomes a limited run without anyone announcing a pullback.
The open question is whether 355 is the floor or the next cut. Eight million dollars is a real gross for a crowdfunded Book of Daniel movie. It is also a total that has been adding smaller weekends every Friday since the open, and the next Friday will show if the circuit still wants the picture in the building.
